Broad 2026 market planning ranges in USD, not quotes or Garbanzo prices. Freelancer includes newer entrants through senior independents. Taxes and pass-through costs, including media, talent, licensing, travel, venues, permits, and projection hardware, are excluded unless stated otherwise. Budgets overlap; the columns describe delivery models, not quality grades. Compare scope, relevant experience, deliverables, and production responsibility when reviewing quotes.
Typical market examples
Example | Freelancer | Specialist studio | Large studio / Agency |

60-second cinematic 3D launch film with material simulation | $10,000–$40,000 | $30,000–$100,000 | $75,000–$250,000+ |
What affects the price
Source assets. Clean CAD supplied is the cheapest start and saves real money. Modeling from photos, or from scratch, is the most expensive.
Length and shots. One hero move at 15 to 30 seconds sits at the low end; a multi-scene film with cutaways sits at the high end.
Surfacing. A single material under studio light is modest. Photoreal materials and full environments are not.
Simulation. None is cheapest. Fluids, cloth, particles, and physics are the steepest line.
Deliverables. One master is the baseline. Cutdowns, verticals, stills, and a configurator set each add finishing passes.
3D rendering costs
Rendering takes machine time, with resolution, materials, lighting, and simulation determining how much. First-time buyers most often underestimate this part of the budget. It happens near the end of the project schedule, which is also when changes are most expensive.
A change to lighting or materials after final renders begin means rendering those frames again. That's why look development is approved on stills before the full render starts.
CAD rendering and model preparation
CAD rendering starts with preparation. Engineering files are built for manufacturing rather than cameras, so Garbanzo imports, cleans, and rebuilds them for rendering before look development begins. That is cheaper than modeling the product from scratch, and engineering review stays part of the process.
Usable CAD is your biggest opportunity to save on the build. Send the messy export. We've seen worse. The prepared model keeps paying back after launch, in product page video, listing renders, a tradeshow loop, and next season's colorways.
Questions we'd ask you first
Start with the product, available CAD or references, and what viewers must understand. The budget or target date can still be taking shape.
Does production CAD exist, and can you send it?
How long, and how many versions?
Photoreal, or stylized and explanatory?
Where does it run first: launch film, PDP, tradeshow?
Agencies usually know whether CAD is available, along with the runtime and version count. For brand teams, engineering often has CAD files the marketing team hasn't seen yet.

FAQ
What if we don't have CAD?
We can model from photographs, drawings, physical samples, or scans. Building from references takes longer than starting from CAD, so ask engineering whether production files exist before ruling them out. Marketing teams are often the last to find out they do.
Are stills cheaper to render than a film?
Per asset, yes. A still is one frame; a film is 24 or more frames for every second of runtime, and each one renders separately. Once the model is built, a set of product stills is a small addition to the cost of the film.
Does doubling the length double the cost of a product film?
No. The model, materials, and lighting are built once, whatever the runtime. Extra length adds animation and render time, so a 60-second film costs more than a 30-second one without costing twice as much.
Does a product film need sound design and music?
Almost always, and both are easy to leave out of a first budget. Sound design gives mechanical moves their weight, and a licensed or original track sets the pace. Both belong in the budget from the start.
What does a 3D product animation quote include?
Model preparation, look development, animation, rendering, finishing, and the deliverable list, each as its own line, with the engineering review points and approval rounds written in. If a quote bundles those into one number, ask for the breakdown.
